After lunch at one of the quaint diners in Mount Airy's historic district, stop in The Gallery Group just around the corner to view works of local artists. Saturday morning, visit Mount Airy's Downtown Cinema Historic Theatre for a 90-minute Old-time music jam session featuring some of the mountain area's local pickers.
After lunch, take a scenic drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Blue Ridge Music Center in Galax, VA. Spend the afternoon touring the Center's exhibits, which trace the history of American roots music, and hiking one of the Center's outdoor trails.
Finish off the evening by relaxing to a concert at the Blue Ridge Music Center's outdoor amphitheater.
